Cakesmash Guide

Prepare to Smash!

A first birthday is a milestone you want to remember and cherish. Here are some tips to consider that will help to achieve a successful session.

Plan the Outfit

Your session includes up to two outfit changes. We recommend trying your outfit(s) including headbands or hats ahead of time to ensure you are happy with fit and style. Paisley Lane Studio has a variety of backdrops and props to style your cakesmash session. We recommend bringing a second outfit in the event a back up is required.

Small Snacks

Sometimes babies are not interested in cake, especially if this is their first experience with sweets. Bring along a water bottle and a few of baby’s favorite little snacks such as puffs, dried yogurt, cheerios, or goldfish. We can use these to add to the cake and entice baby to start sticking their hands in. You may also want to consider offering cake a few days prior to familiarize them with this potential new food.

Clean Up

It could get messy….for everyone! So bring a change of clothes for all involved in the session. Parents will be asked to help place baby and lend a hand when necessary. This means potentially getting “iced” themselves. Remember to bring a bag large enough to carry soiled clothing.

Please also bring a package of your chosen wipes and a towel if your session includes a bath.

Enjoy the Moment

All the planning in the world can’t prepare you if the star of the show doesn’t want to preform. Go with the flow and have fun. There is beauty in every moment and we can capture it!
